An alarm sounding the beginning of the day. Waking up in the dorm. Becca's dorm, like many, is full of character. Becca's book bag. An egg sandwich: breakfast in the den. The book for the L.A.A. 221 Civic Life course provided Mail room at Mars Hill. Students hanging out on the Quad, a common gathering place. Sitting in Health and Wellness class. Hilltop staffers Becca and Kalynn Baker, hanging out in the afternoon. Stroup dorm, the living place of many women at Mars Hill College. Chambers Gym, where PE class is held. Solar Bright, the fish that my Becca's best friend gave her before Becca left for school.

Joshua DeBerry's 24 Hours -- My Feet Joshua DeBerry's 24 Hours -- Screen Saver My roommate relaxing in the room after a long day of classes. A simple fountain in my hallway in Myers dormitory. It's a mystery on how my dorm's fuse box was bent. Now it's a symbol of third floor. A fire safety device. A symbolic representation of track and field. Spikes are a key component to success. Joshua DeBerry's 24 -- Track Teammate About to leave, my teammates savor the sights of Appalachian Sate's indoor track facilities. A shot of the concession stands before I left the ASU track complex. A friend's instrument standing upright. If you look at this, you have lost the game. The object is not to look. A glass drying in Bailey Mountain apartments.

Kalynn Baker's 24 Hours

My roommate left a message on our bathroom mirror. A heart cut from a shot coyote that my friends and I skinned and dissected on our own time. My roommate, Betsy Barr, feeding our pet frog, Diallo, while waiting for her blue hair coloring. Stairs leading to my room on the fourth floor. Some hashbrowns and eggs with a glass of skim milk. I spend quite a bit of time in this vehicle belonging to my friend going to and from our adventures. A wooden cross hanging from Kenny's car mirror. A tire shop down a side road that I explored while my friends were in Wal-mart. A party for Religion and Philosophy minors and majors that Dr. Meacham held at her house. Kenny feeds Dr. Meacham's black lab, Maddie, and my friend Joe Lancaster plays guitar. The small pond in the sunken garden area on campus. A small goldfish swims just under the surface. A second view of the frozen pond in the sunken garden. A fruit bearing plant next to Spillman, still wet from the rain. A dripping pine tree after a rain with the Mars Hill flag in the background. A fence right beside Wal-mart leading to the highway. Not my dorm, but a more aethetically pleasing view of Edna Moore. Quite a dreary day, but we still need to eat. A wall that seemed pretty basic, so I gave it some new perspective.

Kerry Lund's 24 Hours

It's 6 a.m. and I'm out of bed, unfortunately. After a nice, hot shower, I'm off to my 8 a.m. class. Fuddruckers is located in Asheville. Kids eat free Mon., Tues., Wed. nights. I work there. A refrigerator filled with nothing but fruit punch and Powerade. Certainly, a girl's best friend. Five classes a day is a load to carry! With an 8 a.m. class, the next one doesn't begin until noon. Can't you tell that my mother loves me? I stock up. It will all be gone in a week. College professors don't slow down. It's the first day of class, and we've already got homework. Definition of Heaven: Krispy Kreme doughnuts, simply said. In the past week, the ATM has become my super best friend. Switching off on a roadtrip is a good idea. My boyfriend let me drive his car. Smile for the camera! Being in a relationship is the best feeling in the entire world, in my opinion. Why do grocery stores put up signs like this? Trust me, I had way more than 12 items. My brother, 16, had ear surgery Jan. 18. He felt weak and could not hold down any food. I'm hoping to be a nurse when I graduate. Visiting the hospital made me think helping others one day Lori Christein Pace poses for the camera in the hospital room, not very happily. My mom decided to add a little lovin' on the nurses' white board to cheer up my brother.

Wes Starnes' 24 Hours

This is where I spend my time entertaining, sleeping and studying. One of my main sources of entertainment, Facebook, Itunes, and much more. This is the beginning of my average day of classes walking down this hill. The first class of my day, Criminal Justice The outside of Harrell Pool at Mars Hill College. The swimmers view, off of the starting blocks. The rough exterior of Huffman Dormitory. Where I spend an average of two hours a day working out. The long walk up the steep Huffman Hill after a long swim practice. The best dinner i have had in awhile -- ribs, sweet potato fries, mac 'n cheese, corn, eggplant. Where I spend the majority of my time when i'm in the cafeteria. This is normally the best part. Inside my ride, a Hyundia Tiburon.

“I was writing an essay until five in the morning, but it turned out that it was not due today, and no one else did it! I am so mad,” complained Xiao Jiabin, a Mars Hill College freshman from China. For an interview concerning challenges that international students have to face, this was a good start.

 Using his skills as a photographer, an MHC student has helped create do2learn.com, a site devoted to helping people with autism. Junior Josh Doby has assisted do2learn.com twice, both in its creation and once again this past year. Do2learn.com is a compilation of information, games and educational activities for kids with autism to follow and learn from.

Students Start Local DJ Business

A Mars Hill College student has taken an entrepreneurial twist to college life. He puts together and coordinates college parties and events and DJs at them. The service called GME stands for Grown Man Entertainment and plays primarily rap and hip-hop.

To Text or Not To Text? Students Text . . . Rather, Talk Back

Do you text? How about your roommate? How about the person sitting next to you in class? The Hilltop took up the subject this semester in interviews with students on campus to assess their habits and opinions on the now common form of instant communication.
