Advertising can be purchased monthly for The Hilltop website, our main news outlet, www.hilltopmhc.com, or for our newspaper published twice each semester.
Online Advertising Rates
Ad positions are available via The Hilltop online, reaching our college campus of more than 1,000 students and 300 faculty/staff. Rates are determined by whether you are a national business, local/state business or campus/non-profit group. Web ads are 300 x 250 pixels (length x width).
Campus/Non-profit web ad rate: $65/month
Local/State business web ad rate: $85/month
National business web ad rate: $105/month
A multi-month discount of 30% is offered if three or more months are purchased in a block. A month (30-day period) begins on the day the ad is posted. For online ad design (two design proofs provided), add $45.
Print Edition Advertising Rates
The semester print editions (B/W only) are published on standard broadsheet newspaper, 14” wide by 22.5" high. Rates are also determined by national, local/state or campus/non-profit status.
Full Page, 13 X 21.5: Nat'l: $330/issue, Local/State: $275/issue, Campus/Non-profit: $200/issue
3/4 Page, 14 X 13, Nat'l: $240/issue, Local/State: $205/issue, Campus/Non-profit: $170/issue

A double-issue or yearly discount of 25% is offered if ads are purchased for both print editions in the fall or both print editions in the spring. For print ad design (two design proofs provided), add $65.
Crossover Advertising Discount
A discount of 30% is applied to online advertising rates when print edition ads are purchased simultaneously.
Deadlines & Payment
Orders must be received by 3 p.m. on the Thursday prior to the issue date your ad is scheduled to run. Payment should be made by cash or check mailed or delivered to The Hilltop, Mars Hill College, 100 Athletic St., POB 6755, Mars Hill, NC, 28754. Ads are billed Net-15.
Submitting Your Ad
Ads should be submitted via e-mail or snail to jfulford@mhc.edu by the deadline specified. The preferred format is JPEG or PDF. Online ads should be designed with a minimum of 130 dpi. Only black/white ads are accepted for the print editions, although color is available online.
Advertising Policies
The Hilltop reserves the right to accept or reject any advertising requests due to our publication size, staff limitations and the decorum and needs of our audience. We do not accept ads for political campaigns, alcoholic beverages, 900 numbers, firearms, tobacco products, sexually or violently provocative products/publications/organizations or from any group considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Should an advertisement be rejected, any and all fees pre-paid for its publication will be fully refunded. We currently do not have the capability to offer classified ads, business card ads or pre-printed inserts. We will strive to work with advertisers in a manner which best represents them and enhances the quality of their business or organization and upholds the standards of The Hilltop and its audience.
Points of Distribution
The Hilltop is distributed at several locations on the Mars Hill College campus and in Madison and Buncombe counties. Our print run is 2,000 per issue. If you would like to become a point of distribution, let us know.
On campus: Marshbanks, Cornwell, Pittman Dining Hall, Blackwell Hall, Founders Hall, Wren Student Union, LifeWorks, Ferguson, Renfro Library, Adult Education, Soda Shop, Lion's Den, Alumni Relaions, Nash, Media Center, Owen Theater, Chambers Gym. Residential: Bailey Mountain Apartments, Huffman, Edna Moore, Turner, Stroup, Fox, etc.
